Using Table Input

Tree View

When you start using Microstran's new Table Input you immediately notice the impact of the tree view. It provides a superb overview of all the data in the job. You can go straight to the branch containing the data of interest, double-click to expand it, and then double-click on any item in the expanded branch to enter a data table.

In this shot, the branch containing the first load case has been expanded, and also the sub-branch containing the member loads. Scroll up and down this part of the tree and see immediately what sort of loads there are and how many. Double-click on a load and the dialog box shown below will appear.

Double-Click to Sort by Any Column

Table Input

This dialog box contains the table of member loads for the current load case. Initially, the rows of the table are sorted in member number order. By double-clicking on a column header you may sort the rows of the table according to the selected column. Thus, you can easily see the loads ranked in order of magnitude, load type, position, or direction. Double-click again and the sort order is reversed.

The table sorting facility has many other applications. For example, in the node table you can sort by the height coordinate to display together all the nodes at the top of the structure. In the member table, you can sort by section number, material number, or even by end node number to see connected members.
